LOR

Over a long client relationship with Laing O’Rourke, my team delivered a range of applications and tools that leveraged the power of AR and digital content to deliver business outcomes, both internal and public facing.

Multi-platform stakeholder engagement apps were a vital component in digital engineering strategy, and were noted as key elements of successful bids on a range of large public sector projects across the country. Rail infrastructure projects in NSW, Victoria and WA all deployed public stakeholder engagement apps that provided the community with centralised access to documentation regarding project plans, disruption schedules and progress reports, as well as AR visualisations that depicted and explained the design and features of the new developments.

Projects with the University of Sydney leveraged AR to show exactly how new buildings would look to students and staff who stood alongside the physical site. For development of the Engineering and Technology Precinct, additional visualisations were created to show the internal building services layers to the engineering school cohort.

In addition to public facing functionality, internal products were deployed to offer enhanced functionality to Laing O’Rourke staff and contractors on-site. Utilising custom markers placed at specific locations on-site, true to scale AR visuals could be overlaid directly on the physical environment, enabling verification of equipment installation and construction progress. The complexity of the BIM data being visualised required my team to develop new workflows for optimisation and presentation, allowing the AR experiences to run on standard mobile hardware.
